Research group of the year 2021

The TSM research group headed by Prof. Arnesen was awarded the research group of the year 2021 at the Faculty of Medicine UiB.

The committee based the decision on:

High research production in recent years.
Being at the forefront of research in several fields.
Great success in attracting external research funds in 2021 including two large interdisciplinary projects (one to Ziegler and one to Arnesen) in addition to FRIPRO renewal (Arnesen).
An extensive network of collaboration partners both locally and internationally.
Active and leading participation in the international professional forums, such as being selected to organize an EMBO Workshop in Bergen in 2022.
Large and active student environment with regular recruitment of exchange students and a systematic focus on career building of young researchers resulting in multiple project funds from the Meltzer Foundation, NFR FRIPRO mobility grants both in 2017 and in 2021, selected participation in UiB's career program Momentum and awarded Søren Falch's prize for younger researchers in 2019 (Aksnes).
The award was announced in connection with the faculty day for the Faculty of Medicine at UiB in April 2022. At this day the whole faculty is invited to “honor our best, hand out prizes and mark the year's meritorious people”. Vice Dean of Research, Prof. Marit Bakke announced the best research group to a proud Professor Thomas Arnesen who amongst others acknowledged especially the people who kept the lab work going despite COVID-19-related challenges.
